The Youth Commission of Sri Lanka is an non-polotical, non-racial and non-sectarian youth lead movement, formed to unite all youth into a movement working for the development of youth, well being, harmony and peace of mankind in Sri Lanka paving the way for a peaceful and prosperous Sri Lanka for future generation based on the theme of Today’s youth are Today’s leaders.
The first step of the YCSL’ s peace journey was the inaugural meeting of selected district coordinators from all 25 districts to join with YCSL team on 19th December 2020 . During that meeting the origin of the YCSL, it’s future perspectives or goals and the responsibility of the district coordinators were discussed.
Following that, the second phase of journey was, the introductory meetings for young volunteers form all 25 districts who joined with YCSL, started from Galle district (2021/01/20) and were held in Gampaha (2021/01/21), Monaragala (2021/01/21), Anuradhapura (2021/01/21), Kandy (2021/01/22), Kurunagal (2021/01/23), Polonnaruwa (2021/01/23), Rathnapura ( 2021/01/23), Kaluthara (2021/01/24), Badulla (2021/01/24), Hambanthota (2021/01/24), Matara (2021/01/24), Mullaitivu (2021/01/25), Colombo (2021/01/25), Matale (2021/01/26), Batticaloa (2021/01/27), Jaffna (2021/01/30), Nuwara-Eliya (2021/02/04), Vavuniya (2021/02/05), Puttalam (2021/02/05), Trincomalee (2021/02/06) districts respectively. The inaugural meeting for Kegalle district didn’t took place due to unavoidable circumstances.
These meetings also discussed the introduction of YCSL and the vision for the future, the potential benefits for youth development through this organization, how to build positive peace in Sri Lanka, what is the next step of YCSL and so on.
Thus the Youth Commission of Sri Lanka took its first step in the most possible and successful way.
